5 Days Tanzania Safari Adventure
Tour Overview
Visiting three of Tanzania’s Northern Circuit classic national parks, as well as the Hadzabe people around Lake Eyasi, this five-day safari adventure is sure to leave you with some incredible lifetime memories to take home. Departing from Arusha, Tanzania’s safari capital, your first destination on this classic journey will be the beautiful Tarangire National Park, known for its large herds of African elephants and centuries-old baobab trees. Next is Ngorongoro Crater, a fascinating natural wonder teeming with wildlife, including the famous Big Five. The fourth day takes us to Lake Eyasi, where we will spend the day with the Hadzabe and Datoga, two ancient tribes that still preserve their traditional ways of life.
After a night there, only a hidden gem like Lake Manyara National Park would be enough to wrap up our safari in style. We will visit the park for a half-day game drive before departing for Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home or onward travels.

Full Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival - Pick up from Kilimanjaro International Airport
One the staff members from Visit the Tribes will meet and pick you up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). From here you will be transferred to your hotel Arusha. Enjoy a restful night after what’s probably been a long flight before beginning your adventure the next day!

Day 2: Arusha - Tarangire National Park
Following breakfast, we begin the drive to Tarangire National Park. Famous for its baobab trees, massive elephant herds and quality predator sightings, Tarangire makes a perfect launch for your Tanzania Safari Adventure. The park has a unique character, second only to the Serengeti in its distinct landscape and atmosphere. All of the Big Five can be found here, except for rhino.
During the dry season, animals gather around the Tarangire River, making wildlife viewing especially rewarding. The park’s elephant herds are a remarkable sight, often numbering in the hundreds. Among the stars are lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and a huge number of avian species. After a picnic lunch in the afternoon, you’ll continue with a game drive until early evening, then head to your lodge for dinner and a restful night.

Day 3: Tarangire - Ngorongoro Crater
After an early morning breakfast, we head toward Ngorongoro Crater, spotting wildlife along the way as well as red-robed Maasai cattle herders. The rich pasture and permanent water of the crater floor supports a resident population of more than 25,000 large terrestrial animals. They are not confined by the crater walls, and can leave freely; they stay because conditions are favorable. Since most of the crater floor is grassland, grazing animals dominate: zebra, gazelles, buffalo, eland, and warthogs.
Being a small area of just about 21 Km across the largest unbroken caldera in the world, it is amazing the number of animals one gets to see at very close proximity in a single game drive. Expect to see giant-tusked elephants, waterbucks, reedbucks, lions, zebras, hyenas, jackals, rhinos, leopards, cheetahs, you name it. Picnic lunch will be served at a picnic site inside the Crater. After lunch, we will do a final game drive before we ascend and exit the crater, heading to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Meal Plan: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Day 4: Lake Eyasi - Full day with Hadzabe
We’ll leave early in the morning and meet one of the world’s last tribes that still live the way our great, great, great grandfathers did. The Hadzabe have preserved the traditional hunter and gatherer way of life and are known for their click language. They may appear intimidating, dressed in animal pelts and holding a bow and arrow, yet they are a very friendly people. Spend time with the Hadzabe and learn about their culture, customs, rituals, and daily lives.
We will also have the opportunity to participate in some of their everyday duties and hunt with them. To further deepen our experience, we will visit the Datoga tribe. A pastoralist community residing in the same region and offer a unique insight into their traditional way of life. The Datoga, skilled in blacksmithing, produce metal arrows using their ancient craftsmanship. These arrows are said to be highly valued by the Hadza people. In this exchange, the Datoga trade their arrows to the Hadza in return for meat.

Day 5: Lake Eyasi - Lake Manyara National Park - Arusha / Airport
Early morning breakfast at your lodge in Karatu, then your guide will pick you up as early as 6:00 a.m., if you are comfortable with that time. You will take a drive down the wall of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment toward the entrance gate of Lake Manyara National Park, where you will register for park access. Lake Manyara is a compact park made up of groundwater forests, woodlands, open savannah, and the lake itself, which is home to hippos, flamingos, egrets, cormorants, and Egyptian geese.
Apart from the birdlife, Lake Manyara is also known for its tree-climbing lions, although sightings are not guaranteed. The park is inhabited by herds of buffalo, elephants, impalas, duikers, giraffes, zebras, and large troops of baboons and monkeys, among other animals.
